HISTORICAL BLACK COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY TOUR
Since its inception over 2,600 high school juniors from the Pittsburgh area have visited 14 HBCU’s annually, including Tennessee State, Fisk, Tuskegee, Norfolk State, Hampton, Virginia State, Howard, Spelman, Morehouse, Claflin and South Carolina State. Approximately 44% of the students who go on the tour actually enroll at a HBCU. During the tour the students visited several historical landmarks including the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church (site of the 1963 bombing that killed 4 young girls), George Washington Carver Museum and the Martin Luther King Visitor’s Center and the Black Wax Museum.
