Ron Hunt Named to the Hall of Fame at Slippery Rock University

Ron Hunt, a former two-sport student-athlete and coach at Slippery Rock University, was included in a group of seven individuals honored Sept. 29, 2012 by induction into the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame.


Hunt was a three-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division performer for The Rock football team (1970-1972) and a PSAC champion and national qualifier in the long jump for the track and field team.

A native of New Castle and graduate of New Castle High School, Hunt was also a two-time all-district selection and served as a defensive captain for The Rock's 1972 PSAC championship football team. As a three-year starter in the secondary, he is recognized as the leader of the SRU pass defense which placed fourth in the NCAA College Division in 1972 after ranking ninth in the nation in 1971. He also won the PSAC long jump championship and set a school record with a leap of 23 feet, 6 inches in 1972, a record that lasted for over 20 years.
